About Us...

History of St. David's Church: Saint David's Episcopal Church is a young parish in an old New England community which was first settled in 1650. While there are several summer chapels in the area, Saint David's is the first year-round Episcopal Church in the Kennebunk area. The first service was held in the Webhannet Clubhouse on January 23, 1955. In 1961, Saint David's purchased a church building on Portland Street from the Kennebunk Methodist Church, which is now the Presbyterian Church on Route One at the northern edge of "downtown" Kennebunk.

Recognizing that we were poised to grow more than that former home would permit, the property on which Saint David's is now situated was purchased in 1989 and ground was broken for construction in November of that year. The steeple was placed on this building in May of 1990 and it was consecrated for worship on September 1, 1990.

Today, with a building with ample room for our busy church school and a growing congregation, our church family consists of a lively proportion of young families, mixed with a healthy blend of middle-aged and retired communicants. Our members include Wells and Arundel, as well as Kennebunk area natives. Since York County is among the fastest growing areas of Maine, many of our communicants are new residents "from away". This mix is augmented each summer by visitors to the area, many of whom consider us their vacation church home. In the warm and informal atmosphere of Saint David's, new friendships blossom and roots in the new home community are easily established.
